Location; A combination of online delivery, with two 8-day residential modules at Manchester Business School in Manchester, UK.


Targeted at;
This programme is relevant to people who are working in the sports industry and want to develop their careers, and also young graduates who are wishing to embark on a career in the sports industry.

Structure; This is a 6 month programme dedicated to the sports industry, conceived and created by the World Academy of Sport Executive Centre at Manchester Business School. 

The Sports Industry has undergone remarkable development in recent years and is achieving new growth records by exploiting the unique qualities of this industry. The Postgraduate Certificate in Sports Management will provide an understanding of the complexity of the industry and equip young dedicated managers with the knowledge and skills required to make their contribution to the industry in the future.

Delivery; The programme is delivered on-line together with two 8-day residential modules at the Manchester Business School, all complimented by e-learning support. The programme is comprised of 2 components; Taught modules and a Group Research Project. Taught modules cover the following;

  • Strategy, Innovation and Governance
  • Contemporary Issues in Leadership
  • Sports Events Management
  • Introduction to Professional Leagues

Manchester Business School and the World Academy of Sport have extensive networks in the sport industry which is particularly helpful for participants wishing to develop their research projects relating to national or international sports' organisations.

Aims and objectives; Participants will gain a unique appreciation and in-depth understanding of the management and organisational side of sport, as well as detailed analysis of current management models which exist in the industry and how the industry is developing for the future.

Outcomes; The programme has been created to provide participants with the tools to:

  • review the key knowledge and skills of Strategy and Project Management,
  • apply management techniques drawn from a range of disciplines in order to accomplish their task,
  • understand the nature of sports management, the complexity of stakeholder groups and how to best manage them,
  • work effectively in cross-cultural teams,
  • develop the key interpersonal skills needed by sporting administrators today.
